Password Exchange

Note: Don't use this tool. It's a bad idea, plain and simple. You should, instead, use an actual password manager or, better yet, refrain from sharing passwords in the first place.

I can think of multiple ways, off the top of my head, that this can go wrong. For one thing, this tool necessarily needs to store your login information somewhere. How safe your data is depends on how it's stored, how long it's stored, and who has access to the location where it's stored.

For these reasons, that data will be encrypted and stored for only a day (at the most), but during that time, it will be accessible, decrypted, to anyone who knows the unique code associated with that data. I've tried to make it statistically unlikely for a bad actor to guess that code, but "tried" is not the same as "succeeded", and "unlikely" is not the same as "impossible".

Even if malicious entities can't guess your code, it's entirely possible that they could, somehow, gain access to a dump of the data in my database or to the back end of this website. Even if the data is encrypted correctly, it's still hypothetically possible that they could decrypt your data, given enough time. On the other hand, if they gain access to the back end, they will have all the tools at their disposal to decrypt and view your data directly.

In the very worst case scenario, it's entirely possible that I could be a bad actor. I have full control over this tool and the capacity to decrypt any data stored with it. Before you choose to share any data with this tool, ask yourself: Is the person running this website trustworthy?

While I've attempted to take steps to make this tool as secure as possible, I'm not a cybersecurity expert, and I get things wrong sometimes. Please always take the necessary steps to keep yourself and your data safe.
